Because he plays in the National League, he stands at the plate every nine batters.

And sometimes he smacks a hit into right center, or draws a walk.

He wears a jacket when he stands on the bases.

He walked to the plate this inning.

And he stood on the right side.

He took a swing.

He hit the ball, and it flew toward the ceiling.

He craned his neck to see what might happen next.

And it looked like an out, almost certainly.

But people don’t pitch in the major leagues, almost always.

So he took a step toward first base.

And then he couldn’t walk.

Not alone.
