Competition

Does a game in June mean less if the team doesn’t play in October?

It is more pleasant to rake up leaves with a radio playing in the background.

And it is nice to think that the whole world thinks of you:

Your team is splashed across the front page of every sports site.

Tomorrow, they’ll see a parade, with its photos lining the side of a page.

And with each moment, the photos sink further below the surface.

But there are fewer photos in June.

And I have fewer pangs of jealousy while tracking the wins and losses of everyone else.

There are losses, after all.

But this season has just begun.

And other players will find themselves in new cities.

And others will sit in dens with ice wrapped around their shoulders.

Some will be stunned. Others will be stunned for better reasons.

But sometimes, it’s nice to know that others are still playing.

Whether they think of me or not.
