Missouri State vs. Drury, and an update from your host

An update: I had a wonderful time photographing the Bears last spring and following them to Fayetteville and Fort Worth in the postseason. This summer I procured a press pass and took photos of the Springfield Cardinals (AA). It was an awesome opportunity.

I intended to complete a Master’s in Creative Nonfiction Writing in December, but I took a fall playing rec league softball and sustained a concussion in August. It’s my third one, and concussion #2 gave me symptoms for two years. So, I took this semester off to heal my brain.

Lots of good news: my brain is pretty much back to normal. I’m still completing comprehensive exams and my thesis this fall (the latter is a collection of essays based on spending five summers working at Alaska fly-in fishing lodges, and six weeks working at a northern lights lodge 35 miles north of the Arctic Circle, also in Alaska). I’m finishing it up and I’m really excited to share these stories more widely.

I now intend to graduate in May, which means I get to be the Bears’ unofficial poet laureate/essayist for another season.

You can find more essays and photos here this fall. Follow me on Twitter and Instagram if you like.

The best is yet to come.
