Peter, Peter, Base Stealer

I thought he’d taken three strikes, but the umpire said “Strike One!”

And that was it.

So Peter Bourjos walked, and sauntered off first, and dove back into the base on each throw over.

He wore striped socks to his knees.

I suppose it amends the strike zone.

He sped into third on a single by Xavier Scruggs.

And that’s the key:

for the game was tied.

And Peter stepped toward home, with maybe a little less nerve.

Only because the pitcher could see him clearly, and it’s more difficult to get away with things in that situation.

With a hit, he’d score easily.

But anyway.

He didn’t.

Because the next hitter’s three strikes were a little more obvious.

To the batter and the umpire both.
